What Is Digital TV?

TV pictures and sound are compressed into small packages of data.
Consider a pumped up air bed then deflating it to transport it to your holiday destination then pumping it back up.
Digital transmission works in the same way the broadcaster e.g.. Channel 7 has the original pictures then shrinks them and sends the signal to your digital set top box which then reproduces the original picture.
If you are receiving Austar or Foxtel you are already receiving “A” type of digital TV

Do I Need a New TV?

In 90% of the cases the answer is NO!
Providing your TV has AV inputs the answer is no.  All you need to do is purchase a digital set top box for each TV approx. $50.00 - $1000.00. Of course you can purchase an integrated digital TV which already has one built inside. Remember to view all freeview channels your set top box OR your TV must be High Definition
We do provide a selection of Samsung Digital TV’s, LG TVs  Strong and  Nextwave set top boxes. We are happy to set up and demonstrate how it all works at a pace suited to you as part of our quality service to you.
Our products are covered with a manufacturers warranty

What is a Digital Set Top Box?

It is a small electronic box which is the size of a DVD player that sits on or near your TV. It has the antenna plugged into it and then AV leads are then connected to your TV. This device converts the signals received from your antenna into a language/format that your TV understands.
Call us now if you require a digital set top box, we will install and demonstrate how it all works and introduce you to all the new channels.

Do I Need a New Antenna?

It depends. Most antennas will work to a degree. If the antenna has been installed within the last 5 years then you may not need a new one. The Cabling from your antenna to your TV is very important and if it is more than 8 years old then there is a high chance you may need to run new cable, and replace older generation equipment such as splitters, amplifiers/boosters and fittings.
If you are unsure, call us with your concerns. We are happy to discuss your situation in plain English, we can test, inspect and measure all Digital signals and let you know if everything is ok. And If it is not ok we stock quality Antenna products to suit all areas and budgets and install them for you.
All our antenna installations are backed with a 2 year guarantee

What is Changing?

Basically just the way TV signals are transmitted through the air to your TV.  In the near future our current way of transmitting TV signals “analogue” is getting switched off and is moving forward into the digital era with digital transmission.  After this switch off, if your current TV does not have a digital set top box it will no longer receive Australian TV programs!

Why The Change?

To provide you and your family with more choice and with better quality.
Also with all the ever increasing signals in the air such as Cellphones, cordless devices new radio stations etc. etc. We are running out of room to transmit any more signals so there is a need to shrink as much of it as possible. With digital TV, five channels can be broadcast in the same size as just one channel could have been using the old analogue system with much better quality.

I Don’t Want to Buy A New TV or Digital Set Top Box

If you fall into this category then ONE DAY VERY SOON you will not get any TV pictures on your existing TV as our existing analogue system IS GETTING TURNED OFF.
Are you prepared for the big switch off?
Call us today we will fix you up with what you need so you continue to get un interrupted Television viewing. We will make the change over as painless as possible for you. We are friendly and understand that not all want change but it is something that we all have to do.
So change over now while you still have the opportunity to adopt and learn the new changes to your TV viewing.

Cable problems; aged cable, kinks, not shielded correctly, cable to long

Landmark agreement to deliver Digital TV to Remote, Regional and Blackspot viewers

The Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy Senator Stephen Conroy today announced a landmark agreement that will provide digital TV services to viewers on the Sunshine Coast & Hinterland who cannot receive terrestrial digital  TV.

Senator Conroy said the agreement between the Australian Government and  broadcasters Southern Cross Media and Imparja would establish a joint venture  company, Viewer Access Satellite Television (VAST).

It will ensure access to free-to-air television for viewers in the Remote  Central and Eastern Australia licence area, and those in regional and  metropolitan areas who are unable to receive their local TV services  terrestrially.

"This is a significant breakthrough in the provision of digital TV services  to all Australians, particularly for those in remote and regional areas who for many years have had to put up with less choice than people in the cities,"  Senator Conroy said.

"The new VAST service will for the first time make available to all parts of Australia the same number of channels as are available in the capital  cities."

This includes programming in standard definition from the Seven, Nine and Ten  networks and their new digital channels GO!, 7TWO and ONEHD, as well as all of the ABC and SBS channels, including ABC2, ABC3 and SBS TWO. The VAST service will also provide high definition channels.

The VAST service will operate in northern and southern time zones, providing standard definition services for viewers in Queensland and the Northern  Territory based on Brisbane time, and standard definition services for viewers in NSW, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania based on Sydney time.

The high definition services will be provided in a combined zone, covering both the northern and southern zones.

"Viewers of the satellite service will be able to watch their local news services through a dedicated news channel. State-based ABC and SBS news services  would also be available on their respective channels," Senator Conroy said.

The Government will provide a subsidy of $400 to eligible households to  convert to the new satellite service.

Executive Director of the Digital Switchover Taskforce, Andy Townsend said the satellite service will be available for the Mildura/Sunraysia region as the  first region to switch over to digital-only TV on 30 June 2010.

To access the VAST service, viewers will need to purchase a new satellite set  top box with an access ‘smart card’, a satellite dish and cabling.

"Households wanting to get ready for the new satellite service should contact  Technical Whizz  to express their interest so they can start making  arrangements immediately, including the installation of a satellite dish,

Households already using the existing Aurora satellite service will be able to convert to the new service using their existing dish as soon as the new set top boxes are available.

Technical Whizz  is now installing these services on the Sunshine Coast & Hinterland so please contact us so you too can enjoy all 16 Digital channels plus the local news

VAST is now available with special permission to viewers that are
currently using the Aurora platform

VAST is now also available to travellers intending on travelling through remote areas of Australia.

Contact Technical Whizz So we can get you updated with the New Digital TV services finally available to you.
