What type of antenna do I need?

A friendly Technician will carry out an analysis using a digital strength meter to measure where the optimum signal is received from and can advise you on all that you can receive in your area, and recommend the most suitable Antenna.

UHF Antennas To receive signals from the transmitters mentioned, a UHF antenna is required and in many cases an amplifier/booster is also required. Here are a few examples of what a UHF antenna can look like. In general they are much smaller, the elements are close together and are better looking than a VHF antenna

VHF Antennas Brisbane (Mt Coot-Tha) Also has a beam that broadcasts TV signals to many areas on the Sunshine coast. To receive these signals a VHF antenna and a UHF antenna is required, or a combination antenna that incorporates VHF and UHF signals. An amplifier is most definitely required to receive these signals on the coast. The signals for analogue are acceptable but the digital signals work ok during the day but can often tend to break up when there is a storm, or at night. Here are some examples of VHF and Combination Antennas

How does it get to my TV?

Antenna systems work just like a water system

Antenna

Water Tank
Collects signal If behind a tree it does not get good signal If rusted, or damaged never receives all of the signal.
Collects water If under a tree it does not fill up If rusted and has hole in side of it. It Never fills up to its capacity

Amplifier
Water Pump
Increases Available TV signal If power is turned off no signal gets to TV If poor signal is received then will only amplify the available signal
Increases available water pressure If power is turned off no water gets to destination If tank never full will only pump what is available in the tank.

Splitter

T - Joiner
Splits TV signals to more than one TV point The more TV points you have the weaker the signal gets at each point If poorly connected, signal is lost
Splits water to other taps The more taps you have the weaker the pressure will become at each tap If poorly connected, water leaks and water is wasted

Coax Cable
Water Hose
Allows TV signal to pass through to its destination If the cable is kinked it restricts signal flow If cable has a damaged outer shield signal leaks out or interference gets in If cable is joined with electrical tape significant signal is lost
Allows water to flow through to its destination
If the hose is kinked it restricts water flow If the hose has holes in it water leaks out
If hose is just joined with electrical tape water leaks out.

Water Taps
This is where we want good signals for our TV If it is loose or rusted signal is lost If not connected with digital type fittings digital may not work like it should the TV will never receive all of the signal.
This is where we want the water to be available from If tap leaks water is wasted If an imperial tap has been fitted then metric hose fittings will not work or fit

Amplifier Power Supply
Water Pump power plug
Provides power to the amplifier If removed amplifier will not function Will normally only work from one TV point Works by feeding a small voltage up the coax cable When fitted correctly will allow TV signal to flow to all TV points
Provides power to water pump If plug is removed pump will not run Should only be plugged into a socket with a safety circuit on it
